Meanwhile I’m sittin’ here remembering when the fanciest piece of gear I owned was a Casio with ONE speaker, THREE good keys, and a “Disco 1” rhythm that sounded like a squirrel fallin’ down a flight of stairs.
And guess what?
WE STILL HAD PEOPLE DANCIN’.
We didn’t need no “granular spectral vector wavetable hybrid FM subtractive additive re-synthesis with 4D morph modulation” nonsense.
We had a $79 keyboard from a hardware store and an outlet that sparked every time you plugged it in.
These hipsters showin’ off synths that look like they gotta be refrigerated overnight…
All them blinking LEDs, like they’re tryna communicate with aliens.
Half of ’em don’t even play music — they just twist knobs like they’re churnin’ butter in the future.
Back in my day, the only “preset” we had was ON.
And if you wanted reverb?
You took your Casio into the bathroom.
BOOM. Ambience.
