I recently joined the "No New Gear Year" Discord, and have just started looking over some of what's been posted there. Already found this, available both in text form and video:
Synthesizers, Engagement, and the Myth of GAS
https://youtu.be/bzoTjazb9CE
I've read the associated "manifesto" linked from there, and only just started reading the main article, but to me this is a really clear-headed way of looking at it. Sometimes the conventional wisdom of the synth community isn't really the best, and on forums that are primarily about gear it's certainly easy to get drawn into the hype. I'm actually wondering how much I should keep coming back to places like KvR and MW while also trying to stay locked in with my current setup. We'll see though.
