I started messing around with the FL Studio demo again.
Usually I only use the step editor in demo / trial mode and export stems into REAPER.
But this time I tried to actually use the song timeline for drag and drop of WAV files and also to schedule patterns.
I got a nice tune structure happening and it blossomed into this in REAPER (very bad mix, but okay musical ideas):

I really might just buy FL Studio instead of just always using weaker freewares.
The step editor really gets me through and it works somewhat better than LMMS / Hydrogen.
The timeline song stuff ain't that shabby either. I don't really know how to use FL Studio that well, but...
Maybe it's time.
Also,....
I figured out that I ought to just use the Windows version of REAPER to overcome the Wine-Staging v9.22 graphics UI bugginess. The audio drivers in WINE are a little buggy, but at least I get my VSTs back.
I'm happy that I have any kind of working system.
